After Treatment Electrolysis Tips
Tips and Tricks to ensure a speedy and comfortable recovery
-
If your skin is still irritated, you can apply a Hydrocortisone cream and alcohol-free witch hazel. These are anti-inflammatory and will reduce redness, swelling, and blemishes! Use Cortisone, Cortaid, or anything with 1% hydrocortisone or hydrocortisone acetate.
-
Ice on and off for the first 24 hours to help minimize swelling and bruising!
-
Following your treatment, do not touch or scratch the area treated. Bacteria can be transferred easily to treated area and this can cause breakouts (whiteheads).
-
Use a gentle cleanser on the treated area for at least 24 hours after treatment!
-
Avoid the sun for the next 48 hours to avoid the formation of brown pigment spots. Your skin defends against UV rays by producing pigment, which will deflect some of the harmful rays. If your skin is injured or traumatized it can over-produce pigment in those areas. This can result in hyper-pigmentation.
ALWAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN.
-
Avoid perfume or alcohol-based products. They will dry out your skin.
Do not wash or wear make-up over the treated area for 24 hours. Sometimes washing with soap can cause irritation.
-
Avoid excessive sweating. Sweat can cause bacteria to enter into the open follicles and cause minor infection. Exercise before your electrolysis appointment instead of afterward.
-
Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize!
Drink lots of water and stay hydrated!
-
Avoid smoking for the first 24 hours after treatment!
