Get Radiant and Rejuvinated Skin with Micro-Needling
We are excited to announce that Limoges Beauty is now offering a range of skincare services in addition to our electrolysis practice. In this blog post, we will be discussing a treatment called micro-needling. While you may have heard this term before, read on to learn everything you need to know about this skincare saver.
What is Micro-Needling?
Upon first hearing a phrase with the word ‘needle’ in it, you may be a bit intimidated. This widely used and trusted treatment, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) or skin needling, has been in practice since 1995. It involves tiny needles applied to the skin that minimally injure the surface of the skin to create “micro-punctures” or “poke holes.” The epidermis is not harmed because these needles are very fine, sterile, single-use, and safe. The treatment has been described as “painless” or “low pain,” with some areas more sensitive than others.
Why Choose Micro-Needling?
Consumers seek out this treatment for a variety of both cosmetic and health-related reasons, including:
Acne
Burn scars
Wrinkles
Stretch marks
Melasma (pigmentation issues)
Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
Alopecia (hair loss)
Photo-damage (ultraviolet exposure from sunlight)
Boxcar scar types are better addressed with this technique than ice pick scars. Overall, micro-needling can improve the tone, texture, and pore size on any part of the face or body and can be used on all skin colors and types.
The Science Behind Micro-Needling
There are many benefits of micro-needling. According to the article titled “Microneedling: Advances and Widening Horizons” by Aashim Singh and Savita Yadav, the procedure promotes the skin to undergo “…minimal superficial bleeding and set up a wound healing cascade with the release of various growth factors such as platelet-derived growth factor (PGF), transforming growth factor alpha and beta (TGF-α and TGF-β), connective tissue activating protein, connective tissue growth factor, and fibroblast growth factor (FGF). The needles also break down the old hardened scar strands and allow it to revascularize.” In response to these “micro-wounds”, the skin repairs itself by releasing a variety of growth factors and collagen production. This leaves your skin with a more supple and glowing appearance.
What to Expect
The procedure ranges from 10 minutes to an hour. We offer numbing cream for clients who are interested in decreasing any discomfort. It is common for post-treatment skin to be red, inflamed, or even itchy. We offer ice packs and recommend that our clients wear sunscreen and wait a day or so to resume their makeup routine. Full results may take months to be visible, as the skin can build collagen for three to six months after treatments. We work closely with clients to arrange a treatment schedule based on their specific goals.
Advances in Micro-Needling
The past decade has led to many advances in the materials utilized in this procedure. Our micro-needling experts at Limoges Beauty have been professionally trained and adhere to the utmost industry standards to provide our clients with efficient and effective treatments. This includes using innovative equipment and top-notch techniques.
